Rancho Mirage, CA (June 4, 2025) The Leapfrog Group and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) announced today that Eisenhower Health has been nationally designated as a Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes. Eisenhower Health is one of only 36 hospitals in the country to earn this recognition, underscoring the organization’s strong commitment to the safety and well-being of hospitalized individuals living with diabetes.
“At Eisenhower Health, we understand the added risks faced by patients living with diabetes, and we are honored to be recognized for the steps we’ve taken to ensure their safety and well-being during hospitalization,” says Eric Leroux, MD, Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, Eisenhower Health. “This designation affirms our team’s unwavering commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care for every patient, every time.”
Now in its second year, the Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes program evaluates hospitals based on how they care for patients with diabetes during admission, hospital stay, and discharge. It combines the ADA’s Standards of Care in Diabetes with Leapfrog’s nationally respected hospital safety and quality standards. People with diabetes face significantly higher risks of complications from medical errors, infections, and other preventable harm while hospitalized.
“Hospitals caring for people living with diabetes face unique challenges, and institutions like Eisenhower Health are leading the way in prioritizing safety and accountability for this vulnerable population,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Patients living with diabetes deserve high-quality, safe care. We sincerely congratulate Eisenhower Health for their excellence in providing that care.”
Hospitals receiving this designation are recognized for implementing advanced safety protocols such as blood glucose monitoring, hypoglycemia prevention strategies, tailored pre-surgical planning, and thorough discharge planning for high-risk diabetes patients.
“We congratulate Eisenhower Health for demonstrating their commitment to patient safety and improving the lives of people living with diabetes,” says Osagie Ebekozien, MD, MPH, ADA Chief Quality Officer. “Moving evidence-based standards of care into practice opens doors to improved quality outcomes for people living with diabetes.”
