Festival Season Is Here — And So Is Your Local Advantage
As CEO of the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce, April is one of the most exciting times of the year to live and work in the Coachella Valley. World-renowned festivals bring incredible visibility, energy, and economic momentum to our region. Hotels fill, retail and grocers see increased traffic, and our valley shines on a global stage. It’s something we’re proud to host and celebrate.
At the same time, there’s an important local perspective that many residents may not realize. During festival weekends, there’s a common perception that everything is crowded — roads are packed, restaurants are full, tee times are booked, and local businesses are overwhelmed. In reality, many festivalgoers spend most of their time at the event grounds or close to their accommodations. Meanwhile, locals often choose to stay home, assuming it’s too busy to venture out. The result? Some of our valued local businesses experience slower-than-expected evenings and open availability — especially restaurants (dinner), golf courses, boutiques, salons, and service providers.
This creates a unique opportunity for our community. While visitors enjoy the music, locals can enjoy easier reservations at favorite restaurants, more flexible tee times on beautiful courses, and a relaxed experience shopping and supporting small businesses. It’s truly an insider moment — one where residents can step out and support the businesses that serve our community year-round. Our local entrepreneurs, hospitality teams, and small business owners work tirelessly to create the vibrant lifestyle we all enjoy. Showing up during festival weekends helps sustain that energy, supports local jobs, and keeps our business community strong.
So this April, consider making plans close to home. Book that dinner you’ve been thinking about. Schedule a round of golf. Visit a local boutique. Treat yourself to a spa appointment. Invite friends and neighbors to join you.
These small decisions make a meaningful difference. Festival season is a wonderful time for our valley — and it’s also a powerful reminder that our local businesses remain ready to welcome you with open doors and friendly faces. Let’s continue to celebrate the excitement while supporting the heart of our community.
See you around town.
Warmly,
Katie Slimko-Tuvell
