Palm Canyon Theatre Presents The Ritz
A High-Energy Comedy of Chaos, Camp, and Identity
May 8–17, 2026

Palm Springs, Calif., (May 1, 2026) – Palm Canyon Theatre presents The Ritz, a farcical play by Terrence McNally, running May 8–17, 2026. First premiering in the 1970s, The Ritz is a fast-paced comedy that blends sharp wit with unapologetic flamboyance, delivering a joyous celebration of individuality and self-expression.

Set in Manhattan, the story follows Gaetano Proclo (Donald Kelley), an anxious everyman desperate to escape a deadly situation, who finds refuge in the last place he ever expected—a gay bathhouse. Mishaps, misunderstandings, and romantic pursuits quickly spiral out of control as he becomes immersed in a vibrant subculture where nothing is quite as it seems. As the chaos escalates, alliances shift and identities blur, revealing humor rooted in humanity and acceptance.

Anchoring the mayhem is Googie Gomez (Olga Morales), an aspiring performer whose confidence and theatrical flair light up the stage. Surrounded by a cast of unforgettable characters, her journey mirrors the show’s heart: embracing who you are, even when the world insists on labels. The Ritz is a rapid-fire comedy creating a theatrical experience that is both riotous and authentic.

The hilarious ensemble includes Brent Anderson as Tiger, Katt Atkins as Maurine/Aunt Vera, Ron Coronado as Chris, Nick Edwards as Duff, Cliff Goodrich as Sheldon Farenholt/Poppa Vespucci, Adam Hieter as Abe/Patron, Rob Kreisinger Denk as Carmine Vespucci, Larry Martin as Claude Perkins, Steffon Martindale as Patron, Michael Mazzuca as Patron from Sheridan Square, Timothy Rathke as Patron/Cousin Hortensia, Marvin Rea as Patron, Steve Shane as Crisco, Derik Shopinski as Patron in Chaps, James Slaybaugh as Michael Brick, Terry Huber as Patron, and Christine Tringali-Nunes as Vivian Proclo.

The production is directed by David Beris. Scenic and lighting design are by J.W. Layne, with costumes by Derik Shopinski.
