Palm Springs Power Win Twelfth Title in Franchise History
Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power hosted the Inland Valley Legends for game three of the CPCL championship series Sunday evening. The Power took down the Legends 6-5 in a contest where each team traded blows in the early innings.
With the series tied at one win each, the Power turned to Caleb Ortiz to start a win-or-go-home game three. Inland Valley jumped on the righty immediately, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings, and they took a 4-2 lead into the third.
The Power struck back in the first and tied it in the third with a pair of two run innings aided by a scoreless relief effort by Isaac Sanchez. An RBI single by Ramone Valenzuela brought in Alex Jasso to tie it heading into the middle innings.
The fourth inning was the turning point for the Power. The first two outs were recorded on three pitches. AJ Bianchina, Brett Williams and Juni Rodriguez all reached on Legends infield errors. Two runs scored and Palm Springs took a 6-4 lead to the fifth.
Casey Dill called Alex Oliver out of the bullpen and rode the righty to the finish. Oliver silenced the Inland Valley offense over five innings of relief, allowing just one two-out run in the ninth. He struck out nine batters and faced just two over the minimum to earn a 15 out save.
Isaac Sanchez was credited with the win and Jack Janewicz received the loss. It was the first time the Legends made the CPCL championship. For the Power it marks four titles in a row and two in a row at home.
The championship marks the 12th in franchise history. The 4th in the CPCL, in which they have won all four years since the league’s inception. The win also ties Casey Dill with Harry Gurley for the most managerial wins in franchise history with six.
