Power Overwhelm East LA Dodgers
Palm Springs, Calif. – The Palm Springs Power hosted the East LA Dodgers on Tuesday at Palm Springs Stadium in a game they won 14-0. It was the 26th win of the year for the Power in their final week of the regular season before the CPCL playoffs start on Saturday.
Javier Vasquez started the game for the Power and set the tone in a game dominated by pitching. Palm Springs Pitching combined for 17 strikeouts without allowing a walk. Vasquez threw four no-hit innings in just 46 pitches and struck out eight.
Andrew Baltazar fired the next two innings and took home the win, his first of the year. Isaac Sanchez and Quinn Stewart finished off the final three to complete the shutout.
Offensively for the Power the whole lineup had an impact. An eight run eight inning put the game on ice for Palm Springs. The Power sent 14 batters to the plate and needed just two hits to take a 14-0 lead. Five East LA errors and three Power batters who got hit steamheaded an offensive outburst of a half inning that lasted almost 45 minutes.
The Power took the lead in the first and built their lead up slowly over the early innings. Two doubles from Matthew Mecate and Caden Richards led off the game for a 1-0 Power lead. A run in the second and two in the third gave them a 4-0 lead going to the middle innings.
Kaden Durazo reached on a dropped third strike that would have been the third out in the fifth, then the Power scored two more runs immediately after on a 2RBI single by Blake Browning.
Odin Tunland was credited with the loss for the Dodgers. The Power improved their record to 26-4 and will face off against the So Cal Falcons on Wednesday night for All Abilities Night presented by the United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire at Palm Springs Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm with gates opening at 6pm.
