Power Reign Victorious in Maverick Massacre
Palm Springs, Calif. – A mere 48 hours after a 20-6 win over the California Halos, the Palm Springs Power unleashed another offensive outburst, defeating the SoCal Mavericks, 16-5.
The onslaught began with a two-run single by Trevor Banning, who finished the game with two hits, four runs batted in, and a walk.
Ramon Valenzuela also chipped in three runs batted in, finishing with two hits of his own, while also completing the front half of a remarkable double play.
Collecting the loss for the Mavericks was starting pitcher Brandon McKinley, who allowed eight earned runs across 4.1 innings of work.
The Mavericks bullpen endured similar struggles, yielding an additional eight runs in the final 3.2 innings.
On the contrary, Palm Springs’ Cam Witte twirled a gem, striking out eight across six innings pitched. He did not walk a single Maverick, and only allowed two hits on no earned runs.
Witte’s outing was followed by an uncharacteristically disappointing performance by the bullpen, as three pitchers combined for five earned runs.
Perhaps the only question mark for the Power tonight was the defensive struggles of the middle infield, particularly the shortstop position.
Ramon Valenzuela, starring in just his second game with the Power, committed a pair of errors before being replaced by Pepperdine product A.J. Bianchina, who committed two of his own.
Overall, Witte’s strong pitching performance, combined with another incredible outing from the Power lineup, propelled the team to a second consecutive blowout.
The Power will next face off against the SoCal Mavericks once again tomorrow night, looking for a two-game sweep before Micromania wrestling after the game. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM, with stadium gates opening 30 minutes before.
