Saturday’s CWL Semifinal Slate Doesn’t Disappoint

The Washington Blue Sox shut out the Oregon Lumberjacks 5-0 in Saturday morning’s semifinal at Palm Springs Stadium. Logan Reese put Washington ahead with a two-run single in the third inning. Bubba Thompson followed with an RBI, giving the Blue Sox a 3-0 lead through three. Ethan Crawford added two more runs in the fifth with a two-run single of his own. The five runs were more than enough for starting pitcher Joseph Christiana. The right-hander allowed three hits and struck out four while tossing a complete-game shutout. Reese and Crawford each finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Parker Depasquale and Fran Gross each had two hits for the Blue Sox as well. Washington advances to Sunday’s championship game and will face the British Columbia Bombers. Coverage begins at noon at Palm Springs Stadium on Bally Sports Live.

The British Columbia Bombers and Manitoba North Stars played in a 4-3 thriller on Saturday that sent the Bombers to the championship game. The North Stars sent Angel Landazuri to start on the mound and he was dominant, striking out ten over six innings with the lone run coming off a Mason Baronian first inning home run. David Reckers started for the Bombers and worked through five and two thirds innings and allowed three runs. Walks were the flaw for Reckers. The North Stars put runners on in all but one inning against BC, but their defense was stout and turned three double plays in the first five innings. Manitoba got to the Bombers Bullpen in the sixth after three straight walks and a Kota Takeuchi RBI single gave them a 3-1 lead. Eric Petipiece took over and struck out Garret Arnold to get to the seventh down two. The Bombers forced North Stars defensive miscues in the seventh. Three errors and an RBI double by Jacob Schlesselman brought Stan Cliburn’s team back and they took a 4-3 lead. Pettipiece returned to the mound for the seventh and recorded an out before a Khyle Radcliffe double resulted in the end of the line for the BC lefty. Cliburn pulled the trigger and called William Merriott out of the bullpen with one out in the seventh. Merriott threw four pitches before Tyson Dent hit a line drive caught at short stop by Mason Baronian who threw to Drew Donaldson to double up Radcliffe and end the game. Eric Pettipiece was credited with the win and Noah Burkey received the loss. The Bombers will face the Washington Blue Sox at 12pm in the CWL Championship on Sunday.
