What’s ‘Growing Wild’ in the Sunnylands gardens? Movies in May
Sunnylands’ free outdoor movie series, Films in the Gardens, resumes in May with a trio of films knit together under the theme, “Growing Wild,” which drew inspiration from the ongoing exhibition, Curating Canopy: Trees at Sunnylands.
Films in the Gardens runs for three consecutive Friday evenings in May. Each movie begins at 8 p.m. They are:
- May 1 at 8 pm – The BFG (2016) – A little orphan girl befriends a benevolent giant who takes her to Giant Country, where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world. (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 57 minutes.
- May 8 at 8 pm – Where the Wild Things Are (2006) – Yearning for escape and adventure, a young boy runs away from home and sails to an island filled with creatures that take him in as their king. (IMDb). Rated: R. Run time: 1 hour 45 minutes.
- May 15 at 8 pm – The NeverEnding Story (1984) – Bastian finds a magical book in an old bookstore that takes him on an adventure into the land of Fantasia. (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 42 minutes.
Films may be canceled at any time due to weather conditions, including rain, lightning, or strong winds.
Films in the Gardens is presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Sunnylands Center & Gardens is located at 37977 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.
